Abstract/Summary: | |
George Eliot's The Lifted Veil has puzzled critics due to its spiritual elements and troublesome narration. By using Aristotle's understanding of ethos, this paper seeks to reexamine Eliot's text in terms of authorial and narrative ethos, specifically addressing issues of the narrator's credibility as an honest storyteller and Eliot's struggle for credibility as a female author and fallen woman. |
