Abstract/Summary:
This was a study of the relationship between the adaptation gestalt and activities of daily living (ADLS) training. The purpose of the study was to address the validity of the occupational adaptation perspective in teaching ADLS.;By comparison of the change in Minimum Data Set (MDS) scores from the baseline between the adaptation gestalt group and control group, the results indicated that the adaptation gestalt subjects improved significantly in MDS scores compared to the control subjects.;The conclusion of the study is that the adaptation gestalt treatment approach demonstrated better improvement than an occupational therapy approach using only sensorimotor intervention.;Fifteen patients with dementia who received ADL training involving sensorimotor, cognitive and psychosocial involvement served as the adaptation gestalt group. Fifteen former patients who had received treatment with only sensorimotor involvement served as controls.
