Abstract/Summary:
The analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) can be used to predict abnormalities that occur in patients with cardiac and non-cardiac diseases, or to study pharmacological responses. Various methodologies including time domain, frequency domain and nonlinear have been applied to HRV analysis for many years. This paper utilizes heart rate data obtained from heart failure patients using different dosage of lisinopril. The study was conducted in the cardiovascular research laboratory; division of cardiology; Louisiana State University (LSU) health sciences center, under the direction of Dr. Thomas D. Giles. A new signal processing method---wavelet transform technique was adopted. Results of the analysis showed that the ratio of high frequency energy over total energy (HF/total) using the Haar and Daubechies-4 wavelets had a positive correlation with the Standard Deviation of Normal-to-Normal (SDNN) beats. Comparisons of results from the Haar and Daubechies-4 mother wavelets, with and without DC component, for three dosage treatments of lisinopril were done.
