Coil reinforced tubular stents were fabricated out of biodegradable polymers Poly (L-Lactic acid) (PLLA) and Poly (;From the outcome of all the tests it can be concluded that these stents can provide adequate mechanical strength, over a time frame of nine weeks. They have adequate drug or gene loading capacity. The release kinetics need to be altered to suit the clinical requirements. There is a significant reduction in hydrodynamic diameter of polymeric chains due to incubation in saline, but mechanical strength is not lost during this period. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).
