Abstract/Summary:
To fulfill the change of the US Navy shifting priority from designing high performance systems to developing more affordable ones as well, Integrated Power System (IPS) was presented. There are a lot of technical problems existing in this system. It is reported by the Navy that the stability of this kind of system is not very good. They are currently using capacitor banks to increase the power transfer limit, which has led to reliability problems.; The research described in this thesis is a part of the project of Integrated Power System (IPS) sponsored by the Office of Naval Research (ONR). This research involves an investigation into the stability and power transfer capability of this type of system. Because the compensation of the capacitor is limited and because it will occupy a very large space which is valuable for the warship, we need to seek a new kind of compensator to improve the transfer capability of the system.; In this thesis, two systems will be studied. They are modeled with SIMULINK and the stability of the systems is inspected with a model. Further, several kinds of methods of solution are modeled, analyzed and compared. A suggestion for this kind of system stability problem will be given finally.
