Abstract/Summary:
A power conversion module provides the proper AC and DC voltages needed to run equipment inside a military vehicle. Components on this module have an upper temperature limit of 212°F (100°C). This paper presents the design, analysis, and test of a water cooled heat sink used to keep hardware temperatures within operating limits. The final assembly, an aluminum plate with serpentine coolant channel, is being evaluated in three test vehicles. Preliminary field test results show that with a peak coolant inlet temperature of 93.5°F, maximum component temperature is 115.7°F, well below the 212°F design limit.
