Abstract/Summary:
The analysis of a pump test in a leaky aquifer is a less known and more complex problem than the analysis of a pump test in a confined aquifer. Numerical models completed in steady state conditions give similar results than those obtained using the theories developed by DeGlee (1930) and Hantush-Jacob (1955). Many aspects were taken into account while completing the comparison between the numerical models and the theoretical predictions: the vertical flow (Qv) in the aquitard, the horizontal flow (Q h) in the leaky aquifer, the drawdown (s) on the whole model length and the radius of influence (ro) of the pump test. The initial conditions for steady state flow in the theoretical models do not take into account the influence of the thickness of the leaky aquifer and of the aquitard. However, it is possible to use these theories for any thickness ratio between the aquitard and the aquifer as long as a safety factor which corresponds to the difference between the numerical models and the theories is added.
