Abstract/Summary:
Automotive wheel made of composite fabric is analyzed in this work. The study was made for the feasible material, with respect to strength, cost and manufacturability. Graphite/epoxy composite was chosen for wheel. It has strength to weight ratio much higher than steel. The wheel is modeled in finite element software ANSYS and analyzed.; There are four loads acting on the wheel—body load, tire pressure, cornering force and braking torque. All the four loads are applied simultaneously to create a worst-case behavior. A full wheel model is modeled coarsely and analyzed. Based on the stress concentrations areas, three sub models were created and analyzed. A static analysis is done for all models and high stress areas are plotted.
