Abstract/Summary:
The statistical problems arising in the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) vary in their complexity and diversity. Since the mission of the EPA is to protect human health and to safeguard the natural environment—air, water, and land, in order to accomplish this with some scientific basis, a good deal of environmental data must be analyzed. In this thesis we address four problems and offer their solutions. The statistical analyses of these problems require different techniques ranging from standard procedures to sophisticated tools, and mostly exploit both frequentist and Bayesian routes. Most analyses involve computer-intensive computations, and offer reasonably satisfactory solutions. It is our hope and belief that the USEPA will find some of these applications quite interesting and useful.
