Abstract/Summary:
This work investigates plasma spraying processes by addressing the influence of plasma temperature fluctuations on particle heating. Temperature fluctuations in the turbulent plasma jet will cause significant instability of particle temperature and velocity. Particle temperature distribution was calculated by implementing a two-dimensional mathematical model associated with numerical techniques for processing statistical data on thermal particle behaviour. This model is able to predict particle temperature variance and temperature distribution along the trajectory. Thermal characteristics of the particles just before they strike the substrate are useful in predicting the coating formation and the coating quality. The results indicated that particle temperature fluctuations are significantly influenced by varying flow properties. Particle thermal behaviour can be readily determined from the present model.
