Abstract/Summary:
The electrochemistry, spectroelectrochemistry, and axial binding of solvent molecules to dirhodium complexes as well as the synthesis of monoruthenium complexes is presented. Five dirhodium(III,II) complexes (compounds 1--5) of the type Rh2(aP)4(C 6HnF5-n), where ap is an anilinopyridinate anion and n = 0, 3, 4, 5, as well as two monoruthenium complexes of the type Ru II(L)4Cl2 where L = Hap (6), Me 2Hap (7), were synthesized and characterized as to their electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical properties. RuII(Me 3Hap)4Cl2 (8) was previously synthesized in our laboratory and is used in this study for comparison purposes. Rh 2(ap)4(C6H5) (5) Ru II(Me2HaP)4Cl2 (7) were further structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. The electrosynthesis of Rh2(dpf)4(CH3) where dpf is N,N' -diphenylformamidinato anion is also presented in this report. Binding constants for reaction between Rh2(dpf)4 and coordinating solvents (DMF, Py and PhCN) were obtained using UV-vis spectroscopy and electrochemistry.
