Abstract/Summary:
The development of models that accurately predict the performance of a paper machine are valuable to operators trying to optimize paper production and to those concerned with better understanding the process. In this study, a dynamic and modular paper machine simulator package was developed using Matlab with Simulink, and evaluated against data collected from a paper run.; The results of the study show that the simulation reasonably modeled the chosen system. The simulated production rate of solids at the reel shows a <1% deviation from the measured value at steady-state. The average error of the simulated value of Li concentration in the headbox, mix chest, and white water trough, were calculated as 2.6%, 5.1% and 9.3%, respectively, after the step addition of LiCl solution; 3.7%, 4.4%, and 38.6%, respectively, after-the pulse addition of LiCl solution; and 2.2%, 4.6%, and 1.6%, respectively, after the step reduction of LiCl solution.
