Abstract/Summary:
The theory of variational calculus was first introduced in the seventeenth century. Like most fields of mathematics the beginning theory is used today. One of the most important concepts was the formulation of Euler's equation. The problems in variational calculus range in difficulty, where the object is to find the maximum or minimum value of the integral. The first example is considered to be the most widely known problem in variational calculus. The second problem is a special theorem that will be proven in two ways. The third chapter is a special variational problem that uses the Lagrange Multiplier Rule. The problems are discussed and conclusions are made.
