Abstract/Summary:
The genus Burasaia Thouars (Menispermaceae) is a Malagasy endemic unique in the family due to its arborescent habit and trifoliolate leaves. The genus is composed of five species, one of which is described here. The genus is distributed throughout the Eastern and Central domains, including the Sambirano region and along the west coast from the Sambirano to the Bay of Mahajamba (Figure 1).;This study reevaluated species limits, which were ill-defined due variation in previously used characters and scarcity of specimens. New characters were developed from morphological and anatomical data. Morphological data were supplemented by previously lacking information on female flowers and fruits. Anatomical data were obtained from a survey of the leaves and petioles for all species. Parallel descriptions and a morphological-based key were produced.
