Abstract/Summary:
Eleven species of Eugnamptus Schoenherr (Coleoptera: Rhynchitidae) were collected from La Selva Biological Station, Costa Rica. Eight new species, striganotus, lineatus, puscillus, herediensis, bellosus, dolichosus, sarapiquensis and baliosus are described for the first time and three valid species, laticeps Voss, suturalis Sharp and maculatus Sharp are redescribed here. A lectotype is designated for E. suturalis Sharp. The following are included for each new species: Type locality; Type series; Type deposition; Size range; Primary type designation and deposition; Adult descriptive diagnosis; Color; Comments on distinguishing characteristics. Digital habitus photographs, aedeagal illustrations and La Selva distributions maps are also included for each species. Collection methods and host plant associations are discussed. Descriptions of four basic types of transfer apparatuses (TAs) are included and compared to North American eugnamptine species. A dichotomous key based on external characteristics is provided for the identification of all known La Selva species.
