Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to examine the role of central office administrators and their role in supporting site administrators, as well as to study research-based leadership qualities in effective educational administrators.;The researcher focused on one exemplary leader within the Alta Vista Unified School District (pseudonym), Area Administrator, "C.F.", as a case study. The researcher used the Leader Behavior Analysis II (LBAII) developed by Ken Blanchard (1999). The LBAII, based on the Situational Leadership theory, is as a self-assessment instrument and was used to determine what the research subject perceived his leadership style to be; it was also completed by the subject's boss, peer, and 3 principals under his supervision. The results were compared. Discrepancies between these perceptions were examined. Additionally, results of the survey yielded information on the subject's style flexibility, primary, secondary, and developing styles, style effectiveness and improvement of style choice.
