Abstract/Summary:
The environment in which not-for-profit agencies operate and the role they have in the social system has greatly changed. The environment and role of agencies will continue to change as society changes. These changes causes a number of problems for the not-for-profit agencies and within the agencies. In addition, a number of agencies attempted to deal with the changing environment, only to create a number of problems.;This thesis argues that tie way agencies operate and are structured needs to be changed. Agencies need to abandon their old modes of thinking (along with their old way of operating) and adopt new ideas. All actions of the agency are executed to ensure the continued existence of the agency. In order for any agency to survive and expand, the agency must become more like a for-profit company, along with adopting practices of the previous military leaders.;This thesis explored a number of problems faced by not-for-profit agencies which threaten the continued existence of the agency. The thesis offers reason why actions or practices are a threat or problem for the agency. The thesis also gives techniques to solve the problems and to reduce the threat to the agency. Additionally the thesis lists structural and business ideas the agency can compete to generate revenue and expand. Examples from the current business world and history are used to further prove the argument of the thesis.
