Abstract/Summary:
This work deals with mesh adaptation strategy to increase accuracy of numerical solution of partial differential equations. This was achieved economically by employing the Moving Grid Finite Difference Method [2]. The method was reformulated as first order div-curl system [8]. This system was then solved using the Least Square Finite Element method [7] (LSFEM). The reformulation of the method has two desirable effects. First, it eliminates expensive gradient computation in the original method and second it allows the method to be employed to mesh adaptation with moving boundaries. A 2-D general finite element code capable of analyzing linear structural/thermal/fluid flow problems with automatic mesh adaptation, acccpting variety of boundary conditions and sources/sinks, was developed and thoroughly validated. It was found to work satisfactorily for few test cases.
