Abstract/Summary:
The growth of the Internet and the increasing popularity of personal computers (PCs) have led to an increased access to multimedia. On the flip side, this has resulted in unauthorized reproduction and distribution of copyrighted material.; Digital watermarking is the process of embedding additional information into a digital medium to protect it against copyright infringements. A number of digital watermarking techniques have been proposed to accomplish this task, but the attacks aimed at rendering the watermark undetectable pose a great challenge.; This thesis presents a study of various image watermarking algorithms in the wavelet domain. It also proposes an improvement to a watermarking algorithm in the spatial domain. The idea is to make use of the texture masking property of Human Visual System to improve the transparency and the capacity of the watermark. The algorithm is simulated using MATLAB and its performance is analyzed before and after the proposed change.
