Abstract/Summary:
Modern wireless communications is faced with numerous challenges. At high data rates, radio channels are characterized by severe inter symbol interference (ISI) and deep fades in the received signal levels. The subject of this thesis is in the development of an integrated approach for the mitigation of these effects using diversity combining and channel equalization in radio systems utilizing multiple receive antennae.; In this thesis, some aspects of the conventional diversity combining along with the cepstrum-based equalization algorithm are used to develop new strategies to mitigate the multipath effects in mobile radio channels. Performance improvements in terms of bit error rate (BER) and channel identifiability are demonstrated. In addition, benefits such as low computational complexity of the proposed algorithms and diversity gains are discussed as a function of the number of receive antennae.; With the limited spectrum in radio communications and the need to support higher data rates, there is a demand for advanced signal processing algorithms that can support reliable transmissions over channels that exhibit multipath characteristics. The algorithms developed in this thesis contribute to the better understanding of the design transition from the SISO to SIMO wireless transceiver architectures. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)...
