Abstract/Summary:
The World Wide Web is considered the largest database on the Earth. Its vast size makes the process of information retrieval from it a very challenging task. This process of information retrieval from WWW, known to us as Web Mining, can be defined as extraction of interesting and potentially useful patterns and related information or activity related to the World Wide Web. The main objectives of Web Mining are to retrieve web documents, selection and processing the information on the Web and discovering the patterns hidden in it. Web Mining has inherited the techniques from the field of data mining. The tasks of retrieving information from WWW can be accomplished by applying various Data Mining techniques to mine the content of World Wide Web. A detailed study has been made on various Web Mining techniques that are currently in practice and the concept of personalized web browsing is introduced. Personalized Proxy Server, which aims at reducing the network traffic to Web Servers, is implemented.
