| This thesis studies the feasibility of ubiquitous high data rate coverage in Cellular Fixed Relay Networks (CFRN). Firstly, the capacity of CFRN is found through analytical derivations and compared to that of Pico-Cellular Networks (PCN), which is another candidate for future wireless networks, and Conventional Cellular Networks (CCN). Then, a composite multi-hop link is presented, where all the links in the same composite multi-hop link use orthogonal channels in order to prevent excessive in-cell interference. With the help of analytical derivations, the closest distance from the Central Node (CN) where n-hop communication can be utilized is found. Furthermore, the optimum number and position of the first tier Relay Stations (RSs) are found for ubiquitous high data rate coverage. Finally, a series of simulations are performed and performance of CFRN is compared to that of CCN, where the performance criteria are: spectral efficiency distribution/coverage, outage, and average spectral efficiency.
