Abstract/Summary:
Municipal and regional governments have traditionally had grant-in-aid programs. Some governments are clear on the value and purpose of the grant-in-aid funding and how it benefits the community as well as the government body. Some governments are not clear and are looking for grounds to justify the taxation and allocation. This report examines grant-in-programs in some rural communities in British Columbia as well as the concept of successful community development and offers suggestions or recommendations for best practices to align grant-in-aid programs with community development that sustains culture, health, economics and environment for the future.; "Never doubt that a committed group of people can't change the world. It is the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead, (The Institute for Intercultural Studies, 2001, ¶ 1).
