Abstract/Summary:
This ethnography analyzes the pedagogical methods used in the Human Communication Department at CSU Monterey Bay through participant observations and interviews. This study supports the suggestions made for alternative pedagogical models described as critical, engaged, and feminist pedagogy in the 1996 edition of Communication Education, exist at CSU Monterey Bay in the Human Communication Department. Four Human Communication courses were observed over the course of three weeks, and eight interviews were conducted with faculty, students, and the department chair. From the observations and interviews, it was discovered that the pedagogical methods used in the Human Communication Department reflect emergent themes of feminist, critical, and engaged pedagogy.
