Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of a YMCA nutrition education class on physical activity and diet in families who were overweight or obese. A pre-program and 5-week mid-session 24hr. Dietary Recall and Physical Activity Recall were completed on each participant to show changes in physical activity and diet. Paired t-tests were used to compare pre/post program results for total dietary kcals, servings of fruits and vegetables, grams of dietary fiber, total fat, and total energy expended. Results indicated total energy expenditure increased with this program however the effect of diet was unclear. This program's effect on diet may have been too complex to assess with a single 24hr. Dietary Recall.
