Abstract/Summary:
This thesis focuses on the development of techniques that will increase efficiency throughout the civil aircraft flight test certification process. This is accomplished by describing strategies and some innovative techniques which have been developed in preparation for this thesis. Emphasis is placed on proper planning, and the use of appropriate tools and methods. This document discusses and describes several planning strategies, instrumentation options, and the details of various methods for each type of testing contained within a certification program. Examples of innovative testing methods in areas such as climb, stall, and field performance as validated in preparation for this thesis are presented. Test data is presented where possible to provide illustration. Each section discusses opportunities to reduce required testing time and potential pitfalls which may necessitate repeat testing. Following the guidelines discussed here is shown to reduce overall testing cost by approximately 22%.
