Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to examine parental divorce and its long-term effect on intimate relationships among adults. The participants included graduate students from Kean University between the ages of 18 and 45. The participants answered a series of questions about their family background and their current relationship status, as well as age, ethnicity, and relationship satisfaction. Data did not indicate a significant relationship between the parental divorce and adult children's relationship satisfaction. Limitations included the sensitivity of the topic and the level of openness of the participants while answering the questions as well as the age range and level of education. Future research should ensure a more diversified sample with regard to age range and education. In addition, future research should include other variables such as terms of the divorce and the level of distress during the divorce decision-making process.
