Abstract/Summary:
My art involves the idea that art and religion are similar in the aspect that both art and religion possess a quality somewhat transcendental of our physical environment. My oil glaze paintings, watercolors, prints and drawings are the result of my aesthetic experience relating to the rosary, particularly with meditation on "The Luminous Mysteries" which embrace spiritual fruits of the Catholic Faith. I focused on making interesting compositions, manipulating reflection, color, and light to make my art look glorious. A sense of Vanitas pervades the work, the idea that life is transient but the lightness of being is eternal. Influences on my work included 16th and 17 th Northern European Renaissance still life painting, and more contemporary artists Audrey Flack, Rene Magritte and Korean artist, Daeyeon Kim. My MFA exhibition shows the evolution of my own work, practice and inspiration that has made my faith in both art and religion stronger.
