In 2008, a study commissioned by "Vegetarian Times" found that 3.2 percent of the American population follows a plant-based diet and 5.2 percent of non-vegetarians are "definitely interested" in consuming a vegetarian diet in the future. Despite the fact that such a large portion of Americans are interested in plant-based diets, many of the most compelling facts about vegetarianism are hard to swallow or difficult to understand. This collection of articles attempts to ease audiences into vegetarianism with personal stories while referencing research that supports plant-based diets. Expert sources, both first-hand and literary, are used throughout the articles and the research leading up to them. My experiences throughout a year of vegetarianism show that regular people from all walks of life can adopt a plant-based diet, and expert sources support the idea that plant-based diets are more compassionate and healthy than omnivorous diets.
