| The purpose of this grant proposal was to create a potential program for gay and lesbian people who have low self-acceptance because of exposure to Fundamentalist Christianity. The proposal has an extensive literary review, which focuses on gay and lesbian discrimination, mental health, laws, and Fundamentalist Christianity through an analysis of scholarly articles, research, popular Fundamentalist Christian websites, Biblical texts, and government websites. The literature supports the hypothesis that stigmatization and prejudice towards gay and lesbian people come out of the Fundamentalist Christianity paradigm. The literature also supports that gay and lesbian people suffer from minority stress which creates a host of mental, physical, and social problems. After a careful review of the literature, the proposal lays out a specific program meant to assist gay and lesbian people with combating poor levels of self-acceptance. |
