Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this research was to gather data concerning the perceived utilization of sensory diets on children with ADHD. A survey regarding sensory diets was created on the internet-based program Survey Monkey. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Eighteen school-based occupational therapists (OTs) in Western New York (WNY) responded to the survey and served as the sample for this study. Results suggested that the most commonly perceived benefit of sensory diets was decreased inattention. Clinicians identified heavy pushing, weighted vests and inflatable seating as the most frequently utilized sensory diet activities. The study suggested that instructional sheets and in-person directives were the most common methods for educating parents and teachers regarding the use of sensory diets.
