Abstract/Summary:
This thesis laid down a framework for the analysis and prediction of stresses generated in the arterial wall upon application of forces during neuro-endovascular procedures. Excessive application of such forces by the surgeon often causes injury to the artery wall and at times can lead to a rupture which can be fatal. The failure strength of the artery wall determines the stresses at which rupture takes place.; The thesis looks at the geometrical tools and algorithms required to construct patient specific 3D vascular models required for analysis. It introduces a new filtering scheme as well as a new triangulation scheme to aid in this process. The Frenet frame has been identified to quantify the geometrical parameters of tortuousity in terms of curvature and torsion. The various factors that influence generation of stress on the artery wall have been then looked at and their results analyzed.
