Abstract/Summary:
This paper focuses on reducing defects in manufactured high voltage cable assemblies and obtaining quality improvements through Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques that require careful collection and analyses of rejection data. Further, typical inspection operations are examined from receiving inspection of component parts, in-process inspection, and ultimately, final inspection. Additionally, several SPC tools, such as Pareto and Cause-and-Effect Analyses, are described, and methods of reducing rejections, which result in material scrap or assembly rework, are examined through the use of these tools. Finally, quality system will be characterized, and it will be shown that through careful data collection and failure analyses, rejection rates can be reduced with resulting improved profitability and customer satisfaction.
