Abstract/Summary:
The Switched Reluctance Machine has several unique features that make it very attractive for electric power generation. Among them, inherent independence between phase windings, no rotor coils, and simple construction are the most important.; This thesis is about analyzing the operation of the SRM in generating mode, modeling its behavior using computer-based tools like Matlab, and using the analysis and simulation results to develop a simplified scheme that can be used to control the SRM for AC power generation. At the end, a prototype system is built to perform experimental verification of the simplified algorithms developed from the analysis and simulation results.
