Abstract/Summary:
This thesis is an investigation of opportunities to secure benefits, environmental and economical, through improved water management in the brewery industry.; Sleeman Ltd. facilities, located in Guelph ON, were used as a project site. The challenges found during the investigation were specific to Sleeman but the methodology and strategy used is transferable to other locations. The project demonstrates that measurements and observations made while running a full-scale industry can be combined with modelling can be successfully used to design a more efficient process. The solutions generated will bring Sleeman Ltd. to a best operating standard for the industry. A detailed investigation was performed for one component of the system and it will confirm that the cost of modifications meet the required operating standard with a payback period that meets company objectives.
