Abstract/Summary:
The advanced oxidation processes (AOP's) are methods that can be used in the treatment of effluents from the production of testliner and corrugated paper.; In this work, model compounds that can be present in these wastewaters has been studied, together with real samples taken from the white waters circuit. In this context ozone and UV radiation are aggressive advanced oxidation processes that have been tested to degrade these white wastewaters. Solar photocatalysis is a wilder alternative to ozone and it has shown to be efficient to deal with these wastewaters.; This book is divided in eight chapters. The first one introduces the main problems and solutions related with recycling paper industry adopting a zero liquid discharge technology. Chapter 2 presents the objectives of this work. In third chapter, the used experimental methods have been explained. Following, deal with the results achieved in this Thesis: chapter 4 presents the importance of the water management during papermaking. Several questions are included in this part: the relationship between water applications and alternatives to minimize water consumption and the problems associated to the closure of water systems. Chapters 5 to 7 cover the possible solutions and different methods to remove water pollutants: anaerobic treatment, ozone, UV and photocatalysis methods (homogeneous and heterogeneous). In all cases, the problems in these methods are defined too. Finally, chapter 8 is the conclusion of this work. Also, a list of references has been included. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)...
