Abstract/Summary:
The calibration of measurement equipment has been studied throughout the years by organizations dedicated to measuring and international normalization. The calibration of equipment is essential in order to provide a good quality control process. Not calibrating the weight stations can negatively affect the design of a road, this goes against public safety, also having government agencies and private companies expend unnecessary amount of money to mitigate the lack of calibration. The development of a practical Guide to Calibrate Truck Weighting Scales will both facilitate constant monitoring of this equipment and prevention of the loss of calibration. The development of these guidelines will take place through the analysis of research studies on local calibration such as DACO, Field Research, Statistical Analysis and standard guidelines such as those of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST H 44), International Organization for Standardization (ISO 9000) y American Society for Testing and Materials. It was also necessary to familiarize with the calibration procedures of the "Departamento de Asuntos del Consumidor (DACO)" in Puerto Rico. A study was done using trucks of Sand and Gravel of Yabucoa and Perez of Humacao companies. The results were compared to the Permanent Weight Station in Salinas PR. A statistical analyzing was done in order to verify if there are significant differences between the weights of the different weight stations scales. This guide will mitigate the adverse impact associated to the calibration. The implementation of this guides will provide safety the both private and government agencies.
