The research work is focused on the determination of milling time and energy consumption involved in achieving the desired size for titanium silicide (Ti5Si3) subjected to mechanical alloying in attritor. For this purpose an analytical model was developed by considering the competing events of powder sintering and agglomerate fragmentation. The trend in the evolution of the particle size at different shapes of mechanical alloying has been determined using the model. The determination of number of particles as function of milling time and milling conditions was made possible by the deduction of sintering and fracture rate constants. |
