Abstract/Summary:
The main focus of this study is to test the performance of the wellblock production rate equation in various reservoir conditions and reservoir grid systems. The reservoir conditions concerned in this study include reservoir permeability, reservoir anisotropy and heterogeneity in respect to the reservoir permeability. New well production rate equations are proposed. These equations have not been used in the developed reservoir simulator. In order to test the performance of this equation, several single phase 1D and 2D reservoir models were developed and a large number of simulations were conducted with the reservoir simulator Eclipse 100. Then the simulation results were applied to the well production rate equation in the engineering approach to calculate the well geometric factor, called simulated geometric factor. This geometric factor is also new to reservoir simulations. In the engineering approach there are several different equations that have been developed for estimating the well geometric factors. Following the reservoir simulation conditions, these estimated equations were used to calculate the engineering approach geometric factor. The engineering approach geometric factors were compared with the simulated geometric factor. The absolute difference and relative difference between these two geometric factors are calculated for each simulation condition. The statistical analysis was used to evaluate the matches of these two geometric factors. Perfect matches were obtained. The mean of relative differences are less than 0.12%.
