| Composite materials have found many applications in aerospace and marine industries. Structural members in those applications are made from composite materials. There is a constant need for stiffer composites with lower weight. The materials used in the present study are plain woven fabric composites with the nano particle enhancements to the matrix material. Strain rate influences the tensile properties of the material. At higher strain rate materials have higher failure strength while failure strain drops down. Finite Element Solutions are solved for the complex woven fabric composites. Modeling included the detailed modeling of the yarns with local fiber volume fraction. Acoustic Emission monitoring was used to monitor the tensile tests and to understand the complex failure theory of composite materials at different strain rates. |
