Abstract/Summary:
Chapter 1. The development of the first solid-supported asymmetric olefin metathesis catalyst 1.32a is described. A brief review of recently developed solid-supported olefin metatheis catalysts is also presented.*; Chapter 2. The synthesis of optically active siloxepenes is presented. The method is further developed in order to synthesize tertiary ethers with high optical purities (eq. below). A brief overview of approaches towards siloxapenes and oxepenes is presented.*; Chapter 3.{09}The synthesis of optically pure diols using an allylboronate-tethering strategy is presented.{09}The method includes the synthesis of tertiary alcohols, and tertiary 1,3-diols. Preliminary results with vinyl boronates are also reported. A brief review of current catalytic asymmetric methods towards tertiary alcohols is also included.*; *Please refer to dissertation for diagrams.
