Celtic History, culture, and mythology are fascinating topics to study; but can these be applied to modern clothing and be appreciated and marketed? This paper chronicles the research and creative process which resulted in the production of a garment collection for women. Studies of numerous books; travel to Ireland, Scotland, and England, and Celtic Rock music fieldwork blended to produce the inspiration. Research from each course of study is described as it pertained to the garment collection as is the importance of clothing as a signifier of identity. The catalog produced as Celt Proud offers photographs, sketches, and details of each outfit. Brief summations regarding twelve Celtic women from history, myth, and legend are offered to defend the choice of name for each outfit, along with the style features designed to invoke her spirit. An analysis of the creative process is offered along with plans to create a future business. |
