This thesis presents an analytic approach to the generation of torsional magnetic tube waves in stellar convection zones. A thin, vertically oriented magnetic flux tube is embedded in a magnetic field-free, turbulent and compressible external medium. Torsional waves are generated by the interaction between the tube and the turbulent external medium. A theory for this interaction is developed and used in application to compute the wave energy spectra and fluxes carried by torsional tube waves in the solar and stellar atmosphere. |
