Abstract/Summary:
Purpose of study. This study was done to evaluate the subsurface distribution of lithofacies and interpret the depositional setting and environments within the Hartshorne Formation of the Arkoma Basin, Oklahoma. Depositional environments interpreted from electrofacies were used to develop depositional models to help identify potential areas for future hydrocarbon exploitation within the study area.; Conclusions. The Hartshorne Formation resulted from deposition within a fluvial-dominated deltaic system that prograded from east-northeast to west-southwest across the Arkoma Basin. The Hartshorne contains two primary successions of sandstone, shale, and coal that formed within a variety of depositional settings. Gas recoveries are highest from stacked channel-fill sandstones that were deposited within an incised valley/entrenched fluvial valley that eroded underlying deltaic deposits and coal seams. Coals may be thin to absent over these channel-filled valleys.
