Abstract/Summary:
This research project is about the pricing of freight transportation. Freight transportation represents a key sector for the supply chain management, but it is still archaic in the pricing domain. And any progress in this sector could bring competitiveness and prosperity to freight enterprises. Initially, it is revealed in this thesis that the freight transportation sector has not yet been studied under the angle of revenue management, that is to say, using a method based on product pricing by confronting supply and demand on micro-market segments and systematic control of the quantity. Then, the research project shows how the tariffs are fixed in the freight transportation sector.; This master thesis aims at proposing a bilevel mathematical optimization model for the pricing of freight transportation. The objective of the first level is to maximize the profit of the distributor of the merchandises named the carrier. The objective of the second level is to minimize the cost perceived by each customer and for each origin - destination. Four constraints are imposed: respecting the request of each customer, the volume of each type of truck, the correspondences arcs - ways and the non negativity of the variables. The variables of the model are the tariffs to be fixed on each way, the quantity of goods to be transferred on each way and for each customer, the number of different types of trucks on each arc, and the flows on each arc and for each type of truck. This is a nonlinear and nonconvex model and the project shows the equivalence in whole number model and which is programmed using the modeling language AMPL and the solvor FortMP 3.2j.; The validation of this model is established by the analysis of sensitivity on a network test which includes two origins - destinations, four ways, three arcs, two customers, and two types of trucks. All the results obtained correspond to the expectations of the model. The behavior of the model is then observed on a greater road network using a realistic data base based on the freight transportation industry. The results obtained are logical and correspond to the expectations of the model.; Thus, this is a bilevel optimization model which is very original since it segments the market by a segmentation of the customers. Indeed, for each way, a different quality of service is proposed and the perception of the quality of each customer is taken into account. The customer chooses between the services of the competition and those of the carrier.; As well, this master's thesis proposes an instantaneous model of profit optimization: a carrier, which trucks are on their ways, could decide to integrate the order of a new customer depending on the arcs which the trucks are on, their destination, their volume available remaining and the way tariff.; There are many more possibilities of research in order to integrate revenue management into the logistic chain. This research project presents a few examples.
