Abstract/Summary:
This research investigates the implementation of benchmarking in construction organizations by providing a step-by-step methodology. Additionally, this thesis studies the use of fuzzy logic for assessing the quality of a project by comparing the ratios of cost models and real-world projects.;This research was developed by the Hole School of Construction Engineering at the University of Alberta in collaboration with a public sector organization that is always looking for new and innovative management practices to apply in its programs and processes.;An internal benchmarking process was developed for the studied organization. During the analysis phase, the idea of using fuzzy logic to capture the expert knowledge of personnel in the studied organization emerged. Fuzzy logic can be used to assess the quality of a project by ratio comparison, which relates cost, quantities, and percentages for a given project. The fuzzy logic model was tested and validated, giving good results.
