Abstract/Summary:
A methodology was developed in order to analyse financial profitability of two silvicultural systems and also, to evaluate the sensitivity of NPV to different economic and silvicultual parameters. Data come from a mixed management stratum of the region of La Tuque, Quebec. The intensive silvicultural systems are adapted to birches (Betula alleghaniensis Britton and Betula papyrifera Marsh.) and are studied over a 120-year period. Patch cutting combined with selection cutting system (SCJP) is compared to shelterwood cutting (SCPE) one.;The results demonstrate that SCJP is slightly more profitable than the SCPE. The sensitivity analysis shows that, among all criteria considered, treatment costs and product value are the most sensitive parameters. The evolution scenarios parameter appears to be the less sensitive one. Finally, the product allocation matrix is the most sensitive of the silvicultural parameters. Although results are relevant for this particular case study, the approach can be widely applied.
