Abstract/Summary:
A balanced antipodal Vivaldi antenna is specifically designed to be used as a sensor for the tissue sensing adaptive radar, microwave breast cancer detection system. The antenna has the ability to send short pulses, in the near field, with low distortion, low loss and in a directional manner. The reflection coefficient sits below -10 dB starting at around 2.2 GHz and above. The antenna directivity is further improved by the inclusion of a novel feature called the "director" which consists of a profiled piece of higher dielectric introduced in the antenna aperture. The different simulated results have been successfully confirmed with measurements.
