Abstract/Summary:
As wireless communication systems evolve, Orthogonal Frequency Domain Multiplexing (OFDM) has become the modulation scheme of choice for 4G network such as Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and Long Term Evolution (LTE). While OFDM provides an elegant solution to achieve higher data rate with high spectral efficiency, it also provides some technical challenges such as timing and frequency synchronization on the uplink.;This thesis analyzes existing algorithms for uplink multiuser synchronization and their viability to become hardware implementable designs in different channel environments. Each algorithm will be analyzed by their performance to channel parameters such as channel delay spread, initial frequency bias, and the near-far problem. A complete physical layer multiuser system will be presented and real channel measurements will be used to analyze the performance of such a system.
