Abstract/Summary:
This thesis presents an adaptive space-time coding scheme that is designed for use with a multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division-multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) communication system. This MIMO-OFDM system is based on the standard for video broadcasting of terrestrial television (DVB-T). It provides high spectral efficiency, high capacity, and high data-rate wireless communication. A specific kind of space-time code with some practical and innovative design in the MIMO DVB-T OFDM system can improve throughput and transmission performance. An adaptive error correction method is one of the best candidates to help MIMO OFDM systems get the maximum throughput for a given Bit Error Rate (BER). Layered space time coding provides multiplexing capability to maximize the transmission throughput. Thus, an adaptive Low-Density Parity Check (LDPC) coding rate and adaptive modulation with a layered space time coding scheme is proposed, simulated, and analyzed in this thesis in order to achieve the maximum instantaneous system throughput, data performance, and computational complexity.
